to win the bid without paying bribes you have to have a clean process

or the bribes will obviously talk.

Since we (apparently) knew the process wasn't clean we should have launced a campaign to clean up the process BEFORE we bid for anything (it just might have had some chance of making an impact if we had - at least more than the none it has had now).

And as for the FA not knowing it was going to come to a head shortly afterwards - THEY are the ones who brought it to a head with their accusations after they lost so that is no defence.
