The shortcomings obvious in preseason are still apparent now - and the buck has to stop somewhere. Poor results from a poor side would be tolerated. Couple high expectations with one of the best teams we've had in years and after a terrible start, questions HAVE to be asked.
I'm not a knee-jerk reactionary fickle tosspot (at least I hope not), but if we don't win next week and keep winning, then we have to think very seriously about making changes.
I think Chris Goreham has had Worthy lined up for a couple of weeks before he got up the nerve. Worthy's reaction, however heat-of-the-moment, is the equivalent of the bar-room comment in a Western that leaves a silence broken only by the scrape of chairs being pushed back. He has shat very heavily in his own nest there and gone a long way towards alienating his remaining supporters. Even a climb-down on Monday or some sort of "explaination" will probably only make matters worse.
There is one way out left for him now - and that is to win football matches.
