The first time I had mead, I didn't really know what mead actually was. I knew it was honey suffen or other, but presumed it was roughly sort of beer-strength. Weak beer-strength I presumed - about 3.0% - 3.5% - due to its preponderance in medievals novels - they always seem to be on it.
So I done a 75cl bottle in about half an hour.
"Fuck me," I thought, "did I skip lunch or suffen? Weak beer doesn't normally catch up with me this quickly."
And it was only then I thought to have a gander at the bottle, only to see it was 16%abv.
The mead I make won't quite be that strong. 1.3kg of honey into a gallon of water ought to come out at about 12% if I stick enough nutrients in it for the yeasties.
