this would all be fine if he'd said:
"More serious rape - ie not date rape - gets longer sentences etc etc"
But he didn't, did he. He said:
"Serious rape - ie not date rape - gets longer sentences etc etc"
The implication of what date rape therefore is is pretty clear.
Not saying that's a sackable offence, but it is an unfortunate thing for a justive secretary to say. (Particuarly given the cases over the years of old buffer judges implying that "she asked for it" etc etc.)
