sure, they're in a worse bargaining position

but he's the player he is. The length of his current contract doesn't make him worth any more or any less to *us* - just to them.

(And so to say things like "I wouldn't want us to pay ?2m for a League 1 player in the last year of his contract" strikes me as a bit odd.)
