In that case...

1. Avoid Panasonic Plasmas as they all have a problem displaying UK Standard Def TV.

2. Samsung has by far the best upscalling of Standard Def TV pictures on a big screen.

For 50" go for the Samsung PS7000 (which is a plasma) and costs about ?1k. It also does 3D and has iplayer etc.

Built-in Iplayer is good as you can view iplayer HD broadcasts. This means that even if you don't live in a HD area you can still see programmes in HD.
