Look again at the picture the On The Ball song is playing under in that video. This was The Nest, City?s home from 1908 to 1935 and the maddest football ground ever. A former chalk-pit originally nicknamed Rump?s Hole, with white cliff walls instead of white lines, it narrowly avoided a major tragedy in 1922 when clifftop barriers gave way and around 60 of the 14,000 crowd plummeted to the ground. By 1935, a corner of the pitch had subsided into the old chalk workings. The groundsman filled the hole with muck and railway sleepers, and advised caution ?when taking corners?, but the FA ordered City to move.
