Anyone got any experience fitting domestic soundproofing?

Next door got their bathroom turned into a wet-room over the winter, tiled every wall and the floor and it's like a f**king echo chambre. Every morning when he goes in for his morning smoker's cough one can hear every single individual alveoli giving up its goods.

But the room in our house next to that bathroom is destined to be the nursery, and goodness knows what horrific, evil children we'll raise if they hear that noise every morning of their formative years.

So I was wondering how effective/pricey soundproofing the wall would be.
