I was speaking to a bloke down the pub who had Jack Russells

and did a bit of ratting on the side.

He reckoned the best way to train them up was to shoot a rat in the leg, then let the rat bite the dog. After that the dog will show no mercy to any rat it sees, and it will become the dog's sole mission in life.
