Yes it probably did and he undoubtedly made the wrong decision

However, as a warm-blooded sentient mammal I have a modicum of sympathy for a person whose error of judgement very nearly cost him his life.

Still: I am a despicable c**t though, so my judgement may be a little 'off the wall'.
