Wilbraham was never bought to play alongside Holt. He is cover, else a late sub.
To have KOS and Chrissy Martin both out injured is a serious blow. KOS gives balance to the whole side, let alone the left, whilst CM, when he plays, is more of a deep lying forward than a partner in crime for Holt. When he plays we have consistency, right through the team, he is the link between the midfield and attack, with him out, there is a gap, Wilbraham comes in and we play the longer ball as a result, and its all very well him knocking it down, else holding it up, but Horse isn't the sort of player who thrives from that sort of service, he makes his own chances, his own space (so we now have AW getting in the way) and who thrives on the sort of ball and pass that someone like Martin can make or create.
We've never really been 2 up top, last season or this, and the diamond has been more of a 4-1-2-1-1-1, which gives so much space and room for Wes, CM and Holt. Its now a bit more congested up there and chances and space are less frequent.
Its a nice little problem for Lambert to work on and I am sure they will sort it out. As for a replacement striker, Ched, rumours abounding, would be perfect, as, like CM, he isn't a "traditional" striker, more a maker and taker. I don't think for one moment he's coming here, but, of all the players available in the Champ right now, he's be in my top 3 if I could pick anyone, from any team.
