Fair enough. I kind of see where you are coming from

in that the purpose is a roundabout way of answering the question , " how many points do we need" (although hedging the bet and giving a range of 5 points kind of defeats the purpose)

The closer we get to the end of the season though, the more relevant short term form is though (obviously), as over 14 games our form in relation to the other top 5 sides has the potential to fluctuate far greater than that form over 32 games - a point that is entirely relevant given the tightness of the league at the moment.
