One the whole I loved it, but ...

Bad bits:

Jack's voice, as you say.
Jack's Mum's accent and ability to pop up in scenes as if by magic.
The actor that played nasty William was a bit wooden.
William killing his Mum then dumping her in the moat - I know they had to chop the book down to fit TV, but that just seemed out of character (even for a bad'un) and unrealistic.
