Mike's right, hand it over to a shipping agent so they can handle the paperwork. It's not that you couldn't handle it, it's that you don't know what might need handling.

One thing I'd add, in your circumstances: shop around and see if you can find the sort of company that leases parts of major shipments on Big Player shipping. It's big between UK and Yurp but probably less so to S America. Basically these guys buy a chunk of a shipment and then sell it off to punters. You could save a lot of money that way.
