Christ. You must understand why soldiers are trained that way. How many normal citizens would run into a hail of bullets in some far off land which was no direct threat, just because he's getting paid a measly wage for it ?

Different mentality. One could argue cause and effect but you yourself know that a lot of the training and psychology is geared toward those situations. Average Joe simply wouldn't do it.
