IPOD HELP! MONKEY TILT IN PROGRESS

I fear I already know the answer to this but is there any chance that my ipod could be saved (or at least all the music on it) even though this screen keeps appearing:

I have followed the steps suggested in many places but the reset is not working and I can't get up the disk drive screen. If I find somewhere that claims they can fix them, do you think there's a chance? Many people say this is the end for sure...say it aint so...there is a lot on there that I'll struggle to get hold of for a very long time indeed. :>(
