Yesterday Musings

First up, and, re.Bennett, agree with Megson. Frustrating as it is for us not to get Bennett, but fair play to Brighton for sticking to their guns, their ambitions and their player; they didn't cave in to the money or his transfer request, and its good to see a club do that, even though its us that it affects!

People are blathering on and on, on Oink Un this morning about how the club has gone back to the bad old days-no signings, no ambition, we never really wanted Bennett etc etc. This is all because of one day, out of a possible 31, saw no players being signed. The transfer window is all of January, not just January 31st. We signed three players permanently, extended the loan of another to the end of the season, loaned out a further six and sold one. Thats a total of 12 in's and out's for us in one month, yet there are people moaning that we didn't do anything of note in the transfer window, that we should have signed Lita etc etc...

Well, IMHO, transfer windows are all about out's as well as in's, and those outs are as much about building a squad for promotion-next season, if not this-as splashing the cash and getting in these marquee signings that were never going to happen. And, like last year, and contrary to so many years previous to that, whatever happens this season, we'll be busy, come May/June. I also think that, in years gone by, had even the faintest of interest been there, then players like Holt, Crofts and either of the Martin's might have been on their way.

Big game tonight, what worries me is, if we fail to perform or get a result, there are those that will claim the wheels have come off and its all going to go downhill from here.
