Your request is realistic

There are statutory damages which you are owed, though the regime in the EU is currently the subject of legal review. The travel firm should also be interested enough in your future custom to make a reasonable gesture.

Me, Old Missus and youngest (aged one - the others were with grandparents) took 36 hours to get back from Italy last summer thanks to BA f**king up. Legally they were obliged to pay us compensation of ?250 each. They actually paid us ?400 each and gave me and the missus 10,000 BA miles too (which is enough for a free short-haul flight to northern Europe).

Your letters should be polite and non-abusive - as soon as you start being angry with them in writing or on the phone they're less likely to cough up. Say things like "I was very disappointed...", "This is not the standard of service I would expect...", "My wife was very upset by this...".

Good luck conks.
