Statement says...
"Both parties thought it in the best interests of the club that he stand down," said American owner John Henry in a statement on the club's website.
Hodgson adds...
"I am very sad not to have been able to put my stamp on the squad, to be given the time to bring new players into the club in this transfer window and to have been able to be part of the rebuilding process at Liverpool."
Yes, that REALLY sounds as if he was in on it and it was a mutual decision! Looks like a sacking to me, pure and simple-we won't say we've sacked you, but won't say you've resigned either. So you get not the maximum compo you'd expect (but then your managerial record is tainted with the sacking) but you haven't resigned either, therefore (a) not getting any compo, and (b) looking like you bottled it.
Hodgson will have another job by the end of the season.
Liverpool will approach Coyle in the Summer...and yes, we all know what will happen then!
