derby off late too

Derby County's npower Championship home game against Doncaster Rovers has been postponed, after consultation with the match referee and the Football League.

Despite the Rams' concerted efforts to get the game on, an issue providing power to the West Stand at Pride Park Stadium has forced the game to be called off.

The West Stand hosts teams' changing rooms, medical and press facilities and corporate hospitality.

Another huge factor in the decision was the power required to run the floodlights for the duration of the game.

There were no concerns with the playing surface at Pride Park despite the freezing conditions in recent days, nor the surrounding areas and inside the stadium.

A power generator malfunction at 9am on Christmas Day left the West Stand at Pride Park Stadium without power, but a back-up generator was quickly acquired by Derby's maintenance staff to resolve the problem.

A further issue was encountered on Boxing Day morning, but again the Rams were able to provide power to the West Stand through the generator.

To complete a Perfect Storm the Rams were hit with a further problem at around lunchtime, leaving the club no choice but to seek advice from the match officials and the Football League, and the decision was made.
