If they weren't going to award it to us, I am glad it has gone to Russia. I would have been bothered if Spain/Portugal had got it (joint bid-FIFA said they would no longer entertain that; plus Spain had the World Cup in 1982, also the impression that the FIFA delegates would fancy a few weeks in the sun!); however, Russia haven't had it before, and there sure as hell isn't any "glamour" involved in their bid or holding it there!

But Qatar, yes, that decision does seem to suggest that football and football supporters were quite a long way down the list of priorities where that decision was involved. A strange one.
