Yes, my "research" said that both spellings are acceptable in both situations but..

the s is preferred in more "traditional" circles. Rather like not liking the us z even though it actually originated before the use of s. Or center and centre? I'm by no means an English language scholar but surely common usage now rules and OED seems to be working this way too.
