Is your current one old?

There's usually deference amongst cats. Even if they don't get on, they'll mutually respect the elder

That's the minimum. If they get on, they'll never seperate and ball up together

Had a vicious Tom for years, tamed it from a stray when it was 6ish (so too far gone to ever change it's ways, always scratching, squealing, lashing out, horrible little thing really). Although he scrapped with my current cat cos he's a daft tabby, he never once attacked our other who was 12

I think as long as you feed them, and fairs fair, they just respect the 'ownership' of the territory

Your new cat will change when the elder dies, can't really say how, but being the kind of the manor instantly brings out a personality shift to some extent
