Agreed 100%. Its a word that's used to excuse some awful behaviour.

True 'banter' is meant always in good spirit.

I have it with my mates, we all know the lines though, all know the intent and can take as well as give.

It existed in the dressing room on sunday mornings too, again in the right spirit.

Being cruel too someone isn't OK just because you utter the word 'banter'.
