It's all in the re-reading and editing.

Write something on football in first draft and it'll invariably be full of cliches - lookihg over it again and taking them out is vital.

(Typing that has had the weird effect of making me feel I've been too harsh on Tyldesley, Peter Drury etc, as they can't redraft what they say. It's an odd feeling.)
