Chapelfield Gardens

So, a few weeks ago, while you were still in the wind, Selwyn came on here saying that "pikeys" had stolen his nephew's dog, and asking did we know where the fair that had been in Diss had moved onto.

Selwyn being Selwyn, he wasn't taken 100% seriously. I took the mickey, rather, which isn't entirely out of character for me. In my defence, I wasn't alone in taking the mickey.

I didn't believe that it was true anyway, and I know that others were similarly inclined to not take Selwyn at face value. He has rather the charge sheet for not posting a true reflection of his thoughts and feelings on various matters in order to provoke a reaction from other board users.

Even it it was true, I reasoned at the time, I was rather shocked by the seeming knee-jerk racism which is required to go from "missing dog" to "pet theft by 'pikeys'" to "where's the nearest fairground?"

Anyhoo, few days later Selwyn posts "Is there a fair at Chapelfield?". I answer "Yes there is," assuming that a) I wouldn't be taken seriously and that b) Selwyn would be aware that I'm not a Norwich-dweller and therefore unlikely to know whether there was a fair in Chapelfield Gardens at the time or not, leading him back to a). Again, I wasn't alone in taking the mickey out of Selwyn's desire to "track down the 'pikeys'".

About a week later, while I wasn't around, Selwyn returns to the board with the simple message "Arizona Bay: complete c**t". (I added the puctuation) (but not the profanity).

It would seem, that I *was* taken at face value, and Selwyn went down to Chapelfield Gardens, on spec, only to find it empty. Rest of board reacts predictably: outbreaks of laughter aboud.

Threats of violence have been issued, etc etc, I can't really say I've done much to pour oil on the troubled waters (ongoing Chapelfield jokes, etc).

Turns out that there really was a missing dog - there was an article in the Diss Gazette (or whatever it's called) outlining Selwyn's nephew's understandable grief at having lost his pet dog Ruby. Answers to "Roo-roo".

However, I maintain I only ever took the piss out of Selwyn, who's big and ugly enough to look after himself, never out of the situation, or the nephew.

So there we are.

Will you represent me pro bono if he beats me up and I have to take him to court?
