I dunno - I reckon it's hard to fake that kind of world view for so long.

Gervais is by far the least funny in it - and I can see why you'd find him incredibly annoying. That's kind of his schtick, isn't it?

I don't care for anything he's done since The Office apart from the podcasts, btw.
