I meant the profit from the match as a one off event, not accounting for the sunk costs. Your confusion is between the loss generated by the (relatively) fixed costs (such as labour) not being adequately recovered by the income generating events at the macro level.
This doesn't stop an activity based costing occuring at the level of an individual match, which is highly likely to show a contribution. Pricing policy is set in chunks; sections and match categories. That's what needs to be examined, not the headline attendance figure.
