I've often wondered why they pronounce it with a soft C in Boston

Like the Bhoys.
It turns out that people always used to pronounce it with a soft C until some 20th century academics decided it made more sense if a hard C was used.
Fowler said "The spelling C-, and the pronunciation /s/, are the established ones, and no useful purpose seems to be served by the substitution of k-".

Isn't that absolutely fascinating.
