Sport in its purest form is intrinsically better when it is team based. Let me cite one of your examples (boxing) as an example: The better a boxer gets the more money he earns and the less hungrier he becomes for success. Boxing is simply f**ked over (apologies for this simplification but it is necessary here for others) by this tenet. Team sports do not largely encourage this.
