How have we recovered? Germany, France and Italy still had large, exporting manufacturing

industries after the 80's when ours was totally destroyed in favour of the "new" economy that has now led to the huge problems we now have.
Restructuring and regeneration were drastically needed but not wholesale destruction in the name of ideology, the same as is happening now
