I seem to have wandered into a pregnant wife's minefield.

Early this morning I kindly agreed, with no hesitation, to come into work an hour early tomorrow as the wife needs to be in early and wanted a lift.
No argument from me, quick and hearty agreement.

Made the mistake of mentioning I'd probably then leave early, around 3:30 pm.

The wife has a midwife appointment at 3:20 she needs to get to.
The conversation went like this:

"I have the midwife appointment at 3:20 tomorrow, so if you are leaving early do you think you could get out early enough to give me a lift? Its up to you though"

"So we'd have to leave when, 3:00?"

"Yes"

"I'd have to take half an hour off lunch then, might be a push to get out then"

"Yeah i know, its up to you if you want to do that. I think its a bit harsh though to make me walk all the way up there for the sake of half an hour of your lunch"

(UH OH think fast Meggers, this one's getting away from you, I know.....)

"Isn't there a bus you normally get?"
PAUSE
"Yes. Fine. I'll get the bus then if you don't want to sacrifice half an hour"

"Well, no, that's not what I said I just asked if there was as you said you'd have to walk"

"I don't know. I haven't checked. There might be. Its up to you if you don't want to give me a lift"

"I didn't say that, I was just asking"

"Forget it, I'll walk or get the bus"

(USES GREAT WILL POWER TO RESIST SAYING "I thought it was up to me?" and slowly wanders off instead)

Still not sure how i lost control of that so quickly.
I have just received an e-mail that appears conciliatory on the surface, but I fear I may be deceptively close to the edge of this particular minefield, and those suspicious looking bumps in the ground could be yet more devices.

I'm thinking I'll clear a 3:00 pm finish now, give her the lift, raise my stakes, then mention the Nozza Fozza game..........
