Why does being a footballer lend it any relevance?

Why? Why not argue for all largely male dominated professions or pursuits instead of meekly following the tedious Guardian long term cause celebre? Why does the fact(?) that a footballer can't take his same sex partner to a party irk you so much? It's no different to any other profession? Oh, "it's in the Guardian". I see.
