I thought we looked alright

Not great but slightly nervous. I think the midfield are capable of playing better than they did last night but we struggled to take our opportunities up front and made basic errors at the back - this was our downfall against Everton last week, even though we played brilliantly then.

All three goals against us shouldn't have happened. Ruddy looked shaky at times but he saved us in other moments where the defence failed him. The third goal - controversial or not - was poorly defended and Ruddy should never have had to deal with that.

This said, we never played like we did when we were at our worst in the Championship. I've seen games where we have been 2-0 down and called it a day. We continued playing and creating chances up until the final whistle and, though there is work to do, I think it's promising.

Besides, we've not one our first game for eight years and we've been promoted twice and made play off filnals once in that time. Yesterday is one of many games we will lose but we will also win our share as well. It's an open league this year and anyone will beat anyone, let's not read too much into it.
