It is a totally different device from a netbook.

Instant-on, app-oriented, light, beautifully sensitive touch interface, long battery life (compared with a laptop / netbook).

I agree I can't think of a use for it at the moment other than writing useless apps other people would pay me for, but you cannot compare an iPad to a netbook / laptop any more than you can compare an iPhone to a satellite phone.
