I think Lambert fell for it too, because when he arrived here, he even said he thought way to much of himself. I'm pretty sure Lambert relayed that view from what he was told
Because after a few games and knowing Russell was staying, he was straight back in the team as 1st pick in midfield
By the end of the season, Lambert was full of praise and offered him a deal. As well as being completely understanding of him looking around at other options
Sounds like Lambert respects him a lot. I think beyond the perception that he thinks loads of himself, is a professional who just gets on with the job at hand, doesn't get distract, and adapts to any situation quickly (rather than rotting in the reserves, which is usually the way these things pan out)
I don't think he's brilliant, I don't think he's s**t, but I think he's as mentally professional, and conditioned as you can get. Hence why he'll get a decent club
