in other words he's forgotten there's the time trial to come?

My best guess is that he's planning a big attack the second time they go up the Col de Tourmalet - the only summit finish that's now left.

But seems like a pretty big gamble to rest everything on one stage. After he'd withstood all AC's attacks yesterday, I didn't understand why he didn't at least try to get away from him.

Just seems like he's very defensive - like he doesn't really believe he can beat Contador.
