I thought we'd get to the semis

We had qualified really, really well (Eeyore tells me that we were then s**t in some friendlies but I never pay any attention to friendlies). The transformation of form from Schteve M to Capello was so extreme that I thought we'd found a manager who'd worked out how to get the most out of the talents we had.

And we had a BRILLIANT draw - perhaps the easiest group. Win that, and we'd have a really good run at the semis.

Pretty castles in the air, they were. They fell down after the US match.
