But I am baffled by the mismatch between club and country form
Sir Sweaty Redface could buy ANY STRIKER IN THE ENTIRE FUCKING WORLD. More or less, anyway. Most players would jump at the chance to play for Man Yoo. And he buys Spud, and sticks with him. He's not doing it to have a token Englishman, he doesn't give a f**k about England. He does it because, presumably, he thinks Spud is a brilliant player. And he tends to look brilliant, playing for Man Yoo. But he's been woeful all tournament. Woeful. WTF?
Same story with Lampard. He's been an ever-present for Chelsea under Ranieri, Mourinho, Grant, Scolari, Hiddink and Ancelotti. This at a club which changes players all the time. These are some of the greatest managers in the world, they could buy any player, but they keep on picking Lampard. And he regularly looks great for Chelsea. But he was crap this WC, not so much yesterday, but CRAP against US and Algeria. WTF?
So I really struggle with this whole "our players aren't bvery good"/"aren't technically gifted" stuff. If that was really true, this rich clubs with ruthless foreign managers and owners just wouldn't buy them and wouldn't select them. They MUST be technically good enough.
So what the proverbial happened??
