Perhaps, though, the poverty of our ambition is dictated by our poverty of quality?

I don't know if it's fear of failure - the players are, almost to a man, selfish, arrogant, over confident c**ts. I wonder if that's the real problem - they're so wrapped up in their own pampered (club) worlds that they can't hack it when exposed a bit - to enthusiastic, well organised and - yes - technically better teams as well as to a rabid media and more critical fan base.
