why they were 3-1 up. Point is that they never stopped attacking (in contrast to Shearer's pre-match diagnosis: "I can't see the Japanese committing too many players forward." Wrong yet again, Al.)

Whereas even when we'd had a decent spell, we still looked overburdened with fear. Hence the increasing defensiveness. And the fact that we ended the group having scored 2 goals. (Will anyone qualify with fewer?)
