really - better experience, confidence?

Surely his confidence builds by establishing himself with the players he'll be with week in week out. This is not much more than a school football tour - all very nice, but not real. See the future - oh our great star who played at u-19??? I'd say the experience he needs is to get out to a club where plays each week at league level so that he can step in as a 1/2 choice with us at the right time- this toytown tournament isn't equivalent in any way.
