I couldn't work out how to interpret that, whether he meant it on a personal level

or whether he just wanted to dodge saying anything to jeopardise his place

Or, whether he hasn't got any faith in the manager and the players have all turned against him

James didn't say enough to warrant definite conclusion for me. Although I agree, it was an unusual and very tired answer. At worst he could have just been pissed off that he's back in the team, kept a clean sheet, but it's still a disaster
