I agree in part. The so-called Golden Generation of players of the last WC were overrated I think. English players don't pass as well, control as well, cross as well as other countries (Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Italy, etc.) There is a certain amount of passion and spirit in England teams; but that's exactly what Eriksson knocked out of England.
But, yes, England managers have been pretty s**t for a long time - here's a list: User Posted Link - which ones were actually good England managers since, say, Greenwood? Venables I think was at least inventive and moulded a team. Robson probably once he'd changed his tactics at Italia 90. That's it.
