If the later stages are really exciting no-one will remember that this bit was a bit dull

USA 94 and Germany 06 were both exciting in the early stages but finished rather crappily.

Next round of games will see teams starting to be threatened with elimination so the incentive to 'go for it' should increase a fair bit.

Can't believe the Ivory Coast were so negative given that Portugal will be lucky enough to play their bestest buddies (and probably already qualified) Brazil last. Or maybe the Ivorians are actually just a bit crappier than we were led to believe?
