WORLD CUP 2010: Tonight, appearing as Cafu...it's Glen Johnson, the flying machine
It was just like watching Brazil. Evoking memories of the flying Cafu, Glen Johnson went on another burst down the right, causing havoc along the way.
The more pragmatic observer may question how many times the Liverpool right back left his defensive post - he went into the penalty area more than twice as much as Wayne Rooney against America - but he was England's biggest attacking threat.
It was Johnson, a player once sold by Jose Mourinho because of his defensive failings, back to his rampaging best. With his pace, power and strength, Johnson delivered a reminder of his ability.
In the second half, he was the most dangerous player on the pitch, the only England player who could justifiably describe his own performance as world class. He drove infield to shoot with his left foot and tricked his way outside Carlos Bocanegra to deliver two magical crosses which England failed to convert. He also got a thick lip for his efforts.
