Question re digital TV aerials

I was told today that any digital TV aerial will be able to handle Freeview HD. The only reason I have to doubt this is that historically it's unusual for any technological advance to be made available to the public without manufacturers finding ways to charge Brits extra for it.

Can somebody confirm it's true please?
