Googlemail Users

Hi there! I have read on he news that Googlemail have now allowed users in the "United Kingdom to use the "gmail" suffix instead of the "Googlemail" one. does this mean that one can now give out ones address as "username@gmail.com" in stead of the long winded "username@googlemail.com".
