Argument tactic, if you can ever proove what someone is saying is incorrect

they'll power shift that they said it as a joke, and you've been stupid enough to think what they said was being serious

If they're correct, they were being serious

Some people only converse as a battle, the subject, facts, or meaning behind it all is irrelevant. To them, it's you vs them and the only thing they're thinking about is winning the exchange
