he would be wacked for spending money on stupid stuff and not on the team.

Seems like a great idea plus people can help the club without costing them money. (outside of travel)

The club could maybe offer tickets to C level or Carling Cup games in return for work.

FWIW if the ground looks nice then any potential investors might be impressed.
